Quick Start for SharePoint
What is a “Quick Start Engagement”?
Hershey Technologies’ Quick Start engagements for SharePoint provide an alternative to formalized “needs analysis consulting” often used to document the requirements for a project in detail before the project starts. The Quick Start program offers packaged sets of professional services intended to rapidly deploy a pre-defined SharePoint solution that can be lightly customized within the scope of the engagement. A Quick Start engagement might not address all of the requirements for a specific project. However, Quick Start engagements are highly effective when the customer’s budget or schedule does not allow for a formalized requirements analysis. Additional billable consulting or training is often requested by our customers after the Quick Start engagement is complete.
Hershey offers 14 Quick Start packages that address a variety of SharePoint related projects. The goal of the Quick Start program is to match each customer with a Quick Start package that most closely meets their project requirement. Multiple Quick Start packages can be combined to further customize your SharePoint solution. Quick Start consulting engagements are typically combined with other 3rd party or custom software than may be integrated before, during or after the Quick Start engagement.
What types of Quick Start packages are available?
Hershey offers five categories of Quick Start engagement packages for SharePoint, with multiple tiers for each category. Details of each category and tier are separately documented. The menu of available Quick Start offers is below:

Are “substitutions” or changes allowed to the Quick Start package?
The Quick Start program does allow “substitutions” or changes to the pre-defined packages. In these cases, Hershey’s consulting team will assess the impact of the requested changed to the overall scope of work to determine if the price of the Quick Start package will change or remain the same. Any changes to the default scope of work for a Quick Start are documented plainly in a Quick Start Modification form.
What type of Project Management does the Quick Start package include?
The Quick Start engagements do not include formalized project management services. We expect that about 15% of our time during the Quick Start engagement should be for project management related tasks, such as requirements documentation and status meetings. Additional, formalized project management services are available on a time and materials basis.
Does the Quick Start engagement include any documentation?
No. The Quick Start packages generally do not include any documentation unless explicitly stated within the deliverables of a specific Quick Start package. SharePoint 2010 includes extensive online help and there is a vast amount of SharePoint information online. Because the implementation of each Quick Start engagement is highly customized, it would be impossible to provide a standard set of documentation that covers what each customer is really looking for.
However, Hershey Technologies can produce custom documentation that meets your precise requirements on a time and materials basis. Although the Quick Start packages generally include some level of training, the format of this training is an ad-hoc and informal review of the customized implementation created during the engagement. Users are encouraged to take notes during this training. It is not a classroom-style training with prepared manuals.
We also offer general-purpose SharePoint 2010 training packages for End-Users, IT Pros and Developers. These structured training programs do include a manual for each registered user in the training.
What if none of the Quick Start packages meet our requirements?
If none of Hershey’s 14 different Quick Start engagements for SharePoint closely match your project requirements, then we can begin your project with a formal consulting engagement for needs assessment / requirements analysis. The end result of this engagement is a detailed Solution Design Document and a fixed price quotation to implement the solution. Alternatively, we can begin your project on a simple time and materials basis utilizing agile methodologies.
